I like to think of myself as a guinea pig that will try (almost) anything to look more glowy and youthful. Since I can’t do Botox anymore, I’ve tried my fair share of both holistic and non-holistic beauty regimens to achieve the same results. That being said, here are the beauty microbits I do at 39 that I wish I did sooner.
Reapplying SPF
This one might seem too obvious but I didn’t wear sunscreen until I was 29 or 30. I also spent way too much time in tanning beds when I was younger, which I always say I regret in life. Now, I’m diligent about SPF and reapplying. I especially love a mist so I can reapply over makeup throughout the day (I prefer to be dewy, not matte, which is why I don’t use a powder). If you prefer to be more matte, just make sure you’re using SPF as your base and use something like this to reapply. You’re not going to get enough coverage using just powder (imo).
Face Tape
Even when I had Botox, I could’ve benefited from Japanese face tape. There are practitioners now who recommend it to their clients to prolong the effects of their Botox, although most in the industry scoff at it (let’s be honest, nobody is doing a randomized trial on face tape). That said, it works! I raise my brows in my sleep and get lines around my eyes from sleeping on my side so the tape prevents that.
Silk Eye Mask & Pillowcase
This is such an easy swap that makes a huge impact on skin and hair. It helps to prevent those lines on my face, keeps my hair silky, and prevents breakage at night. A silk scrunchie is an honorable mention because it makes it look like I got a blowout in my sleep! I do a loose bun and wake up with the perfect waves and bounce.
Scalp Care
Someone once told me your scalp is part of your face and you know what, they were right! Hair health starts at the scalp and I have notices a difference even after just a few times of using this oil.
Microneedling at Home
There are two different options that I’m currently playing around with. Reedle Shot uses tiny, dissolvable spicules to deliver ingredients into the skin, mush like microneedling, but in a bottle. It helps to stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture, and enhance the absorption of skincare products. Think of it as a step in your skincare routine. The other option is the Environ Gold Roll-CIT which is a 14ct gold plated instrument with 260 needles made of surgical 316 stainless steel. The needles are 0.2mm in length and are easy to clean. The gold naturally suppresses bacterial growth. I am loving this to prep my skin before skincare, particularly on my forehead, mid-face and chest.
Red Light Therapy
I especially love this for the neck and chest! Our chest is the first thing that really shows our age (imo) and that sun damage I mentioned. Lasers took care of that but red light really helps to maintain results and help with much needed collagen and elastin production (especially near infrared light). It’s such an east 10-minute habit to do daily for big benefits.
