How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe

Let’s talk fashion! I recently had Hollywood’s go-to fashion sourcer Gab Waller on TBF to chat all things style, from how to get out of a style rut to how to define your personal style and everything in between… If you’re a fashion girly then it’s a must-listen to episode! As we transition into the fall season, I thought it would be the perfect time to share the top tips Gab and I discussed for building a capsule wardrobe. So, let’s get into it…

Denim

Let’s start with the basics. Everyone needs a good set of jeans in their wardrobe. You can never go wrong with a pair of vintage levi’s and Shop RLT has a great selection. Poshmark is another great place to snag a pair of quality vintage denim at more affordable prices. I love this pair from RE/DONE denim.

Shoes

When it comes to footwear, a classic ballet flat or loafer is a capsule wardrobe essential. Shoes are something that you’ll want to invest in so go with more high-priced pieces because you’ll be wearing these A LOT. Another staple shoe that you’ll always reach for is a timeless kitten heel or pump. You can’t go wrong with these Celine loafers and Gab swears by this pair of The Row ballet flats.

Blazers

Let’s get into jackets. A quality blazer is a closet must-have. You can throw it over any outfit and depending on the weather, a blazer is the perfect piece to transition you from day to night. This blazer from Anine Bing is so worth the investment.

Classic Basics

Basics are the building blocks of a capsule wardrobe. A basic set of tees or tank tops can be styled a million different ways and are usually the first piece you put on when creating an outfit. This cropped tee might be my most worn item in my closet… Clyque the Label also has a great selection of basics!

Neutral Tones

A good capsule wardrobe usually sticks to neutral tones. More vibrant colors tend to come in and out of style and trend with seasons, but neutrals can be worn year round! So, when you’re shopping for your core capsule wardrobe pieces, go with more neutral colors.
