If you’ve followed me for a while, you probably know I’m extremely passionate about skincare. But what really shifted my perspective was going through my own skin journey in 2022. Clearing my acne completely changed the way I think about beauty, aging, and the role procedures actually play in how we look.
Recently, on my podcast, I interviewed 3 dermatologists over 2 days, and one thing kept coming up: the distinction between procedures and skin health. I realized it was something I really wanted to talk about more openly.
It’s now been over 5 years since I did fat transfer, and while procedures can absolutely make a difference, I think there’s a huge misconception that surgery, lasers, injectables, or treatments alone will give you “good skin.” Yes, they can enhance structure, volume, and contours, but they don’t replace the daily habits that actually create healthy skin.
To me, it’s similar to body treatments or surgery. You can get lipo, but if you never move your body, prioritize sleep, hydrate, or eat well, there’s only so much it can do long term. The same goes for your face. Procedures can absolutely support a more youthful appearance, but they work best when they’re layered on top of consistent skincare and healthy habits.
That’s honestly why I became so obsessed with skincare after working with Jenn Hollander and The LA Facialist to heal my acne. It completely reframed my mindset. Once my skin barrier was healthy and my routine became consistent, I saw more change than I ever did from chasing quick fixes.
That said, I really believe what you do 99% of the time is what matters most. This doesn’t mean I’m anti-procedure at all because you guys know I’m actually super open about what I’ve done. I just think it’s important to have realistic expectations and understand that glowing, healthy skin is usually built through consistency, not just one appointment.
