The Benefits of Cold Plunging

If you’ve heard of the Wim Hof Method, then you’ve probably heard of cold plunging – aka cold therapy. It’s been linked to numerous health benefits and some athletes and celebrities swear by it. The best part about it is that it’s easy to do at home, whether it’s an ice bath or cold shower. Cold plunge pools and cryo therapy treatments have also become increasingly popular, especially within the health and wellness industry. So, who exactly is crazy enough to submerge themselves in an ice cold bath? Well, I for one have found numerous benefits, combined with breath work. This method truly saved me last year when I felt like I could barely function, but don’t take it from me! Here are some scientifically backed health benefits of cold plunging:

-Speeds up metabolism

-Reduces inflammation, swelling and sore muscles

-Improves quality of sleep

-Increases your energy

-Reduces stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia

-Strengthens the immune system

-Releases hormones and endorphins

-Stabilizes blood pressure

-Improves blood circulation

-Decreases cortisone levels, a stress inducing hormone

-Improves mood by activating sensory nerves that lead to the brain

Cold plunging is another tool I have in my toolbox that has really helped with my anxiety. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I’d suggest trying the Wim Hof Method (I did 10 minutes of breath work followed by a 3 minute cold bath). Check with your doctor to see if this could be something beneficial to you and let me know if you try it out!
